How do you unwind after a demanding day?
After a long, demanding day, I’m all about creating a little sanctuary for myself. I don’t need anything over-the-top—just the right vibe, a few comforting rituals, and a moment to breathe. Here’s what my unwind routine looks like (and yes, it’s as soothing as it sounds).
As soon as I hit the door, I light a candle—one in the kitchen and one in the bathroom. Soft lighting, gentle flickers, maybe a clean or floral scent—it sets the perfect mood. I like having that warm glow in the background as I wind down.
Then, a hot shower. This is my reset button. The steam, the warmth, the sound of the water—it melts the day away. I like to use a calming body wash, maybe something with eucalyptus or vanilla, and just let the stress rinse off.
Next: a cup of hot tea and honey. There’s something about holding a warm mug that instantly tells my body it’s time to slow down. I’ll usually go for something herbal—chamomile, lavender, or a calming blend—and let it steep while I set the tone for the rest of the evening!
And to tie it all together? Instrumental music. No lyrics, no distractions—just peaceful melodies filling the space. It helps me clear my mind, slow my thoughts, and fully relax.
Now for the sweetest part—two spoonfuls of strawberry Häagen-Dazs. Not a whole pint (okay… sometimes), but just enough to savor the flavor and indulge a little. It’s my tiny treat, and it brings me so much joy. And I follow this up by brushing my teeth.
By the end of this little routine, I feel grounded, recharged, and ready to let go of the day. It’s simple, intentional, and exactly what I need to come back to myself.
