You’re going on a cross-country trip. Airplane, train, bus, car, or bike?
There’s something special about a cross-country road trip—the open road, changing landscapes, and the freedom to explore at your own pace. While flying might be the fastest way to get from one side of the country to the other, it’s not for me. I’d much rather take a car, and here’s why.
1. No Planes, No Stress
I’ll be the first to admit it—I’m not a fan of flying. Turbulence makes me anxious, and the entire airport experience feels like a hassle. Between long security lines, delayed flights, and being crammed into a tiny seat for hours, air travel just isn’t my idea of a good time. Driving, on the other hand, lets me stay in control and enjoy the journey without white-knuckling through takeoff and landing.
2. The Freedom to Explore
One of the biggest perks of a road trip is flexibility. When you’re flying, you go from point A to point B without much room for spontaneity. But when you’re driving, you can take detours, stop at scenic overlooks, and check out hidden gems along the way. If I see a quirky roadside attraction or a local restaurant with great reviews, I can pull over and experience it. The road is mine to explore.
3. Comfort & Cleanliness
After a long day of travel, I want to sleep in a clean, comfortable hotel—not squeeze into a questionable airport lounge or struggle to get comfortable on a plane. Road-tripping means I can choose my accommodations, ensuring I get a good night’s sleep in a place I trust. Plus, I can pack as much as I want without worrying about baggage fees or overhead bin space.
4. The Journey Matters
For me, a cross-country trip isn’t just about getting to the destination—it’s about the adventure along the way. Driving allows me to take it all in, from vast deserts to lush forests, small towns to big cities. It’s a chance to experience the country in a way that flying just can’t match.
At the end of the day, I’d rather embrace the journey, take my time, and make memories along the way. Give me a car, a good playlist, and the open road, and I’m set for the ultimate cross-country adventure.
